Zabolotney, Lena

Lena Zabolotney (nee Varoney) late of Assiniboia, Sask., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8th, 2005 in her ninety-second year.
Lena was predeceased by her husband Andrew in 1988, parents Stefan 1974 and Anna 1924; five brothers Bill, Nick, John, Pete, George; five sisters Sophie Zalinko, Mary Kraincuik, Agnes Varoney, Edna Message, and Florence Message.
Lena is survived by her three sons David (Audrey) of Kayville Sask., granddaughter Michelle (Marty) Brandt of Calgary AB, great-granddaughter Dana, granddaughter Melissa (Jeff) Milne of Hanna Alta.; Gordon (Marcia) of Kayville Sask., Clifford (Dorothy) of Regina Sask., grandson Andy (Tricia) of Regina Sask., great-granddaughters Taylor and Morgan, granddaughter Nicole of Calgary, Alta. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Mary Voroney of Saskatoon, Mona Voroney of Brooks Alta., Mary Voroney of Brooks, Alta., Sheila Juravle of Regina and brother-in-law Alymer Message of Westlock, Alta. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lena Varoney was born on her parents’ farm near Kayville on April 28th, 1912. Her mother passed away shortly after her sister Florence was born. Lena, who was 12 years old at this time, acted as the mother of her younger siblings for many years. She married Andrew in 1935 and they farmed in the Ormiston - Kayville area until 1983 retiring to Assiniboia to enjoy the company of many friends, playing cards and bingo. Lena’s loves were her family, gardening and cooking. Many of her son’s friends can attest to the many fine meals they enjoyed at her home.
Funeral Service was held in the Dominion Road Baptist Church, Assiniboia, Sask., Saturday, February 12th, 2005. Pastor Bill Luther officiated. Scripture reader was Cory Lizotte. Honorary Pallbearers “All Those Who Shared in Lena’s Life”. Pallbearers were: Andy Zabolotney, Marty Brandt, Jason Popescu, John Zalinko, Gary Popescu, and Floyd Dav-ison. The Tribute was given by Clifford Zabolotney. The Music Ministry was led by Carol Luther, who also sang “In The Garden”. Congregational Hymns were: “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Donations in Memory of Lena can be made to the Ross Payant Nursing Home Auxiliary. Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, Sask. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, Sask.
