Isted, Albert Leslie (Les)

Albert Leslie "Les" Isted was born on the family farm on August 2, 1914, six miles south of Ogema. The family moved into town in 1917 and Les helped on the family dairy farm which was started by his dad in 1919. Les spent his youth during the 30's doing chores before and after he attended grammar school. He also helped his father break horses for driving in the 20's and 30's. In 1931 he nearly fell into a well full of water while riding his pinto mare but with the help of neighbours he was able to get the mare out of the well. As a young boy, Les enjoyed watching and playing practical jokes on his friends and neighbours, sometimes with unexpected results.

In 1934 Les married Eldora Moyer and they were married for 69 years. Meanwhile Les continued to work for his father and helped people on their farms, he also did some barbering, worked in the pool room for 25 years. For five years, Les candled eggs in Ogema for a company in Assiniboia, two summers he mixed grasshopper poison for the R.M. of Key West and for 16 years Les sharpened saws. Les and Eldora spent their summers at the children's cabin at Long Lake. Les enjoyed making plaster ornaments, candle holders out of tin cans as well as little chairs and lawn ornaments. He also would help Eldora do her macrame by making the beads on his lathe. Les and Eldora lived in Ogema until a few years ago when they moved into Pangman, where he resided until his death on November 20, 2003.

Les was predeceased by his sisters: Mary Pearne, May Richmond and Edith Lipsett; daughter, Frances Loucks; two brothers: Walter in infancy and George Isted; three grandchildren: Tina, Harry and Allan. Les is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eldora Isted; children: John (Hazel) Isted, June (Fred) Fisher, Les (Lynne) Isted and Estella (Richard) Strobl; brother, Vic (Elma) Isted; sister-in-law, Alice Isted as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service was held on Monday, November 24, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. from the Ogema Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Les to a charity of choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn, SK
