Nelson, Clarence

Clarence Nelson, late of Regina, passed away on Tuesday, December 9th at the age of 86 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Bessie Nelson of Ceylon, SK; brother, Milo of Ventura, California; sister Ruby Erickson of Toronto, ON; sister Opal Jackson of Comox, B.C.; and wife Elsie of Vancouver, BC. He leaves to mourn two loving sons Barrie and Ken both of Regina; Brother Everett of Radville; sister Pearl of Comox, B.C. and several nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of WWII. On returning from overseas, Clarence was employed by Postal Services at the Main Branch in Regina for many years. He was an accomplished musician and played with many groups in Regina. His main instrument was Bass Guitar. He enjoyed playing with Senior Groups until failing health took its toll. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his loving sons Barrie and Ken.

Nelson, Darlene

Darlene Nelson (Spooner) passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at Lloydminster, Alberta at the age of 68 years. She was born December 7, 1936 in Bengough, Saskatchewan.
Darlene was predeceased by an infant son Randy, father and mother Fred and Lena Spooner, brother Alvin and sister Jean Forsberg.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband Darrell, four children: Rick (Shoon) of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ronna Fulton, Robbie (Laurie) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Roxanne (Dwight) Lawrence of Brooks, Alberta. Darlene is also survived by four grandchildren: Erin (Kevin) Lofstrand, Jill Nelson, Joel and Kyle Nelson, one brother Fred (Betty) Spooner of Ottawa, Ontario, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family. The funeral service was conducted from McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloyminster on Thursday, November 4, 2004. Interment will follow at a later date at the Bengough Cemetery.

Nicolay, Alena Noela

Alena Noela Nicolay was born December 25, 1930 in Harptree, Sask. The sixth of eleven children born to Pete and Rose Marie Chartrand. Alena attended various schools including Paisley Brook and Willow Bunch Convent. She worked for various families looking after children, gardening, house keeping and various other duties. She married Emil Nicolay on July 11, 1955 in Sydney, Montana. They loved to travel, go fishing and to hunt.

On April 19, 1956, William Emil was born, on May 20, 1958 (Anna) Fay was born and on November 22, 1961 Sherry was born. As her children were growing up, Alena’s home was open to numerous of their friends who all attended Sunday morning Church Service.

Emil and Alena were the caretakers of Bengough School, until Alena was hired at the Twilight Home in Bengough, where she home schooled and graduated from Kelsey Institute as a Health Care Aid.

Alena enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sewing, crafts and traveling.

Alena passed away on August 14, 2005 at the Bengough Health Centre. Predeceased by her parents, Pete and Rose Marie, her brothers Emil, Jacob, Daulphis, William and Peter and her sister Christine.

Alena and Emil are survived by their son Bill (Janice) Nicolay, their daughters Fay (Ron) Adam and Sherry (Olanda) Jacobson, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was survived by her husband Emil at the time of her death, three sisters, Vickie Morrison, Mary Sabin and Laura Johnson; and two brothers Tommy Chartrand and Edward (Jean) Chartrand.

Nicolay, Emil Alois

Emil Alois Nicolay was born September 28, 1914 in Coalgate, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of five children, son of William and Anna.

His family moved to the family farm in 1917. Emil attended school in Waniska and later in Bengough. In the 1930’s Emil shook hands with his father and left to travel throughout Canada working various jobs such as farming, mining, camp cook, logging, bookkeeping and truck driving.

He came home every year to help his dad farm. Emil loved to chuck wagon and chariot race, and was one of the only ones to ride bucking mules out of the chute.

Emil married Alena Chartrand on July 11, 1955 in Sydney, Montana. They loved to travel, go fishing and to hunt. Emil enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, farming, horses and all livestock. Emil loved his farm and always called it “God’s Country”.

Emil passed away August 16, 2005 at the Bengough Health Centre. Predeceased by his parents William and Anna, his brothers Ralph and Ernie, his sisters Leila and Francis, and his wife of 50 years, Alena (on August 14, 2005). Emil is survived by his son Bill (Janice) Nicolay, his daughters Fay (Ron) Adam and Sherry (Olanda) Jacobson, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Prayer Service for Alena and Emil was held St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Bengough, Sk., Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Belva Boynton officiated.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Father Gerry Bauche celebrant. Altar servers were James Giraudier and Patrick Gravelle. Honorary Pallbearers were Granddaughters and Great-Grandchildren. Pallbearers for Alena were Grandsons: Joey Adam, Bradley Nicolay, Chad Nicolay, Delvis Jacobson, Denny Jacobson, Orlando Jacob-son and the Urn Bearer for Emil was Fred Meston. Tribute to Alena was given by Kelly Fish and the Tribute to Emil was given by Larry Nicolay. Readers were Colleen Gillespe and Joann Clark.

The Music Ministry was led by the Bengough Community Choir accompanied by the organist, Donna Morris. Masses or Donations in Memory of Alena and Emil can be made to the Ben-gough Health Centre. Interment followed at the Bengough Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, Sask.
